I just purchased a new Kubota bx2230 with 54" deck and 50" snowblower. My question to everyone is will I need to get tire chains for my tractor to aid in snowblowing. I have turf tires on this machine and where I live (Great Lakes snowbelt area) getting 10 inches of snow or more at one time is not uncommon. I appreciate any help I can get now before we get this kind of snow, actually I am looking forward to getting so as I can try the tractor out! Thanks again...

It all depends on your slope. If it's a front mounted blower you will knock out all the snow before it gets to your wheels. Chains on the rear always help. If your driveway is pretty flat I'd try it without first and save the expense. If it's a rear mounted blower, sometimes you need to drive in the slop before you can start clearing.
I have a BX2200 and put rear chains on it and it is pretty much a tank in the snow driving right through it to the woodpile. ....

If your driveway is blacktop then you will do fine without chains. ....

I have used mine on blacktop, concrete, gravel, hills and flat and have NEVER had any need for chains. 4WD with the snowblower is plenty. I often add my box blade on the back for doing edges and that weight along with the 'blower will make the BX completely unstoppable in snow. ....

Hey guys, thanks for the info... for the most part my driveway is flat, just have a slight grade going up to my house. It is gravel driveway for now so I will have to keep the blower lifted a couple inches till it packs down with ice or else I will be picking stones up out of the yard for days come springtime. I will have to let you guys know how it works when we get some snow...
